BLW Applesauce Cookies

BLW Applesauce Cookies for baby pinit

This recipe is for 7 month old baby & up

I have found the most perfect baby-led weaning cookie that is so easy and quick to make, with only 4 ingredients! They are allergen friendly, egg-free, dairy-free, nut-free and gluten-free if you have gluten free oats. Takes about 15 min to make all in all, and you have yourself a yummy, soft cookie, made for your baby to practice how to chew and soft enough for them to enjoy. They promote self-feeding, helping babies develop their fine motor skills while providing a healthy treat that supports their growth and development. BLW applesauce cookies are a wonderful snack for babies and toddlers, combining natural sweetness, light texture, and essential nutrients. These cookies are naturally sweetened and packed with wholesome ingredients, making them a great choice for parents who want to offer a homemade, healthy alternative to store-bought snacks. They’re also free from added sugars and unnecessary additives, ensuring that your little one gets the best start when it comes to healthy eating habits. This yummy snack can be stored on the countertop for a few days, or freeze and take out throughout the week.

The key ingredient in these cookies is applesauce, which not only adds natural sweetness but also offers essential nutrients like fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants. Apples are known for their digestive benefits, especially for little ones transitioning to solid foods. The fiber helps support healthy digestion and prevents constipation, which can be a concern for babies when they start eating more solids. These cookies are  made with wholesome ingredients like oats and almond flour, which add an extra nutritional punch. Oats provide complex carbs and fiber, ensuring a slow release of energy that keeps babies satisfied for longer periods. Almond flour, if used, also contributes healthy fats and Vitamin E, promoting brain health.

Making these cookies is simple, and the recipe can be adapted to suit your baby’s dietary needs. You add mashed banana for additional sweetness or some parents like to add a small amount of chia seeds or ground flaxseeds for added fiber and healthy fats, but this is optional depending on your baby’s age and tolerance to seeds. If you have toddlers or older kids you can add a little maple syrup or in my house we like to add some raisins for natural sweetness.

Substitutions:

Instant Oats: I like to use instant oats, since they are thinner in texture. If you don’t have you can replace with rolled oats or oat flour.

Almond flour: You can substitute almond flour with 1/3 cup of instant oats.

Applesauce: You can use store bought applesauce or homemade applesauce, I recommend using unsweetened.

What you need:

You will need a baking tray and I like to use parchment paper so the cookie doesn’t stick to the bottom.
