How to Serve:
9 month baby & up- Mash the meatball with some sweet potato.
12 months & up, toddlers & adults- Serve the meatballs warm with rice, couscous, or flatbread.
Tips for Best Success:
-When mixing the meat, try to work and combine everything together for a good 2 minutes. This will make your meatballs soft and tender.
-When forming your meatballs roll the mixture into small, uniform meatballs, about 1–1.5 inches in diameter. Kind of like the size of a golf ball.
What you need:
One large oven-safe pot or pan. I like to use stainless steel.
Substitutions:
Ground Beef- I like to use 85% lean ground beef, you can replace with lamb if preferred or some people like to mix the two together.
Onion- The onion is needed for flavor in the sauce, I don’t recommend replacing it.
Shredded gold potato in meatball- The potato gives moisture to the meatball, giving it a softer texture. It can be substituted with a shredded zucchini.
Sweet Potatoes- If you don’t like sweet potato try swapping for gold potatoes, mushrooms or whichever veggie you prefer.
Egg- You can add extra potato in the meatball mixture with a little oil and make sure to work the beef well, in place of the egg.
Oats- The oats help bind the meatball together, it can be substituted with breadcrumbs.
Tomato paste & crushed tomatoes- This is needed to make the tomato sauce that the meatballs cook in, there are no replacements.
Date Syrup- You can omit if preferred.
