Egg & Cheese Toast Sticks: A Nutritious, Easy Breakfast for 8 months baby & up

Egg & Cheese Toast Sticks are a great, easy breakfast idea for babies, toddlers and kids alike. If you are short on time one morning, please give these a try, I promise you will not be disappointed. These have become a breakfast staple in our house, made with only 3 ingredients, so quick to whip up and I love how easy they are for baby to eat! The toast comes out really soft and is especially great for those little one’s that don’t like the texture of eggs or if you are practicing baby led weaning (BLW), it’s very easy to chew and hold for self-feeding.

To make this breakfast for baby you dip slices of whole-grain bread in a beaten egg, some cheese on top, and cook them until they’re golden and slightly crispy. The combination of protein from the egg, fiber from the whole wheat bread and calcium from the cheese makes it a nutritious start to the day, and the finger-friendly shape makes it fun for your baby to eat, while encouraging self-feeding. I hope you guys like them as much as we do!

Egg & Cheese Toast Sticks for Baby-led Weaning (BLW):

-Egg and cheese toast sticks are not only delicious but also fun for babies and toddlers to eat. The stick shape makes them easy for little hands to grab, promoting self-feeding skills.

-These sticks also provide an opportunity for babies to practice their fine motor skills and learn to chew different textures.

-The toast itself becomes very soft and easy for baby to chew when dipped in the egg and cheese mixture.

Nutritional Benefits:

Eggs: Eggs are a powerhouse of nutrients, providing high-quality protein and essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamin D, B12, and choline. Protein is critical for growth and muscle development, while choline supports brain health and memory. Eggs also contain healthy fats that contribute to overall health and are especially beneficial for babies’ brain development and cognitive function. As a complete source of protein, eggs can help meet the nutritional needs of growing children, making them a perfect ingredient for a wholesome meal.

Cheese: Cheese is another nutrient-dense food, rich in calcium, protein, and phosphorus, which are important for bone health and growth. Calcium, in particular, is essential during the formative years when babies and toddlers are developing their skeletal structure. Cheese also provides a source of fat, which helps support energy levels and is necessary for the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, such as vitamins A, D, E, and K.

Bread: Whole grain bread, when used in the recipe, adds fiber to the meal, promoting healthy digestion. Whole grains are also a good source of B vitamins, which are important for energy metabolism and overall cell function. For babies and toddlers, whole grain bread provides a slow-releasing source of energy, helping them stay full for longer and preventing blood sugar spikes.

Ingredients & Substitutions:

Whole Wheat Toast: I recommend using a soft toast for baby, anyone you prefer.

Cheese: Use a low-sodium shredded cheese, like mozzarella or a mix of mozzarella and cheddar.

Eggs: I don’t recommend replacing the eggs in this recipe.

Butter or Oil: Butter works well when cooking the toast, but I’ve used Avocado Oil spray and it works great.
