Baby Hummus

Baby Hummus – A Nutritious First Dip for Little Ones 6 months & up

When your baby starts solids, one of the best things you can do is introduce them to a variety of textures and flavors in a safe and gentle way. This baby hummus is the perfect first dip — smooth, creamy, and full of nourishing ingredients. Made with simple pantry staples and no added salt, it’s tailored just for little taste buds.

Baby Hummus is naturally rich in plant-based protein, iron, and healthy fats, making it a wonderful addition to your baby’s meals. Whether you’re practicing baby-led weaning (BLW) or spoon-feeding, this mild, baby-friendly version is a great way to offer flavor and nutrition in every bite.

Why Hummus Is Great for Babies:

Traditional hummus can be too salty or seasoned for infants, but with a few small tweaks, it becomes an ideal first food. This homemade version skips the salt and uses a gentle blend of chickpeas, olive oil and lemon juice, creating a soft, creamy texture that’s safe and easy for babies to handle.

Benefits of baby hummus include:

  • Iron and protein from chickpeas to support brain development and growth

  • Healthy fats from olive oil for brain and nervous system health

  • Texture variety to help babies learn to eat purees and dips

  • Flavor development to gently expand their palate early on

How to Serve Baby Hummus:

Baby hummus is super versatile and can be offered in many ways:

  • Spread thinly on soft toast strips or rice cakes

  • As a dip for steamed veggie sticks (like carrots or zucchini)

  • Mixed into mashed sweet potato, lentils, salmon and more

  • Added to a soft cooked grain bowl with couscous, rice, or quinoa

  • Offered on a preloaded spoon for self-feeding practice

It’s a great food for building coordination and giving babies a sense of independence with their meals.

Storage Tips:

  • Store baby hummus in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

  • For longer storage, freeze small portions in silicone trays for easy defrosting.

  • Stir before serving, as natural separation may occur.
