Fish & chips pinit

This recipe is for 12 month baby & up

Wow you guys! This Fish & Chips recipe is definitely one of my top 5 favorite recipes on the blog, it is absolutely delicious and is always a hit with the whole family. The fish itself takes about 10 min to make and comes out so soft, moist, flavorful and is deliciously paired with a baby-friendly tarter sauce, making it fun for baby or toddlers to dip while eating. This nutritious, finger-friendly meal introduces your baby to new textures and tastes in a healthy way. It is perfect for baby-led weaning (BLW) or if you little one is transitioning from purees to solids. It is soft enough for them to chew and swallow and tasty enough for them to enjoy. For this recipe I like to use Branzino filet, it comes out amazing, but you can use any white fish you prefer, for example cod, tilapia, halibut, etc.

Benefits of Fish for Kids:

Fish is an excellent source of protein, healthy fats, and important nutrients that are vital for a baby’s growth and brain development. Many types of fish, such as salmon, cod, or tilapia, are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, particularly DHA, which is crucial for the development of the brain and eyes in young children. Omega-3s are also known for their anti-inflammatory properties, which help support a healthy immune system.

In addition to omega-3s, fish is packed with protein, which is important for muscle development and growth, and vitamins like vitamin D and B12, which play key roles in bone health and energy production. Introducing fish into your child’s diet early on can also help develop their palate and encourage a taste for more diverse and nutritious foods.

When selecting fish for babies and toddlers, it’s important to choose varieties that are low in mercury, such as salmon, cod, haddock, or tilapia. Avoid fish like swordfish, king mackerel, and shark, which contain higher levels of mercury and can be harmful to young children.

How to serve:

For potato cut into 2 in wedges, so it is easier for baby to eat

For fish cut into long strips and plate with a side of tarter sauce

Serve on a silicone divider plate for baby to have fun and explore the fish, chips and dip!

Substitutions:

All-purpose flour- Can replace with almond flour, gluten-free flour, whole wheat flour, etc.

Fish- I used Branzino, you can replace with Tilapia, cod, halibut or any white fish you prefer

Egg- Make a flaxseed egg, 1 tbsp of ground flaxseed with 3 tbsp of non-dairy or dairy milk and let it sit for 15 min
