Olive Oil Crackers

olive oil crackers pinit

This recipe is for 12 month baby & up

Wow these Olive Oil Crackers are one of my favorite snacks on the blog! They are so easy and simple to make, requiring just 4 basic ingredients, that you most likely have in your pantry right now! Naturally vegan, egg-free, dairy-free and nut-free. If you are looking for healthy toddler snacks, school snacks or travel snacks you have to give these a try, I myself can’t stop eating them throughout the day. They are a fantastic option to have, and such a great alternative to store-bought snacks, which have so much added junk to them. The simple ingredients are easy to digest, and the olive oil adds a rich, mild flavor that appeals to children. These crackers are also a fun way to introduce healthy fats to your child’s diet, and the crunchy texture makes them enjoyable for toddlers.

What’s so great about this healthy toddler snack, there is absolutely no chilling required. Once you mix the dough together you can cut your cracker shape and put it straight in the oven. Such a simple, easy cracker recipe! And if stored correctly, they stay good for a while, making them great for lunchboxes, school snacks, or if you have a flight to catch with your little one, it’s an excellent travel snack. Hope you guys give them a try!

Nutritional Benefits of Olive Oil Crackers:

Heart-Healthy Fats: One of the standout benefits of olive oil crackers is the use of olive oil itself. Olive oil, particularly extra virgin olive oil, is rich in monounsaturated fats, which are considered heart-healthy fats. These fats can help reduce bad cholesterol (LDL) levels and lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases. For growing children and adults alike, consuming healthy fats is essential for brain development, energy, and overall well-being. Additionally, olive oil contains antioxidants like vitamin E and polyphenols, which have anti-inflammatory properties and promote general health.

Rich in Fiber: When made with whole grain or whole wheat flour, olive oil crackers become an excellent source of fiber. Fiber is crucial for digestive health, promoting regular bowel movements and preventing constipation.

Vitamins and Minerals: Olive oil contains fat-soluble vitamins like vitamin E, which is important for skin health and immune function. Whole wheat or whole grain versions of these crackers also provide B vitamins (such as niacin and riboflavin) that support energy metabolism and overall cell function. Depending on the flour you use, you might also find that your crackers are a source of minerals like magnesium, zinc, and iron, which contribute to overall health and growth in children.

Substitutions:

White Spelt Flour- I love how the white spelt flour comes out in this recipe, but if you don’t have you can replace with white whole wheat flour or all-purpose.

Olive Oil- If for some reason you don’t like the olive oil flavor you can substitute with avocado oil or another neutral oil.

Tips for Success:

  • If you want a softer cracker roll out the dough to about 1/4-1/2 inch in thickness.
  • For crispier cracker roll it out thinner.
  • These crackers can burn easily, keep an eye on them as cook time can vary a little depending on oven.
  • Make sure to cool completely and store in airtight glass container.
