This recipe is for 7 month baby & up

These healthy Apple Fritters are one of my son’s favorite easy breakfasts! They are extremely easy to make, made with just 4 wholesome ingredients, all under 30 minutes. A yummy breakfast, made with shredded apples, eggs, whole grain flour and a dash of cinnamon, I promise your little one’s will love this one! The natural sweetness from apples and the slight flavor boost from cinnamon make them appealing to younger children who are still developing their taste preferences, along with being incredibly soft, making them perfect for babies transitioning from purees to solids, or practicing baby-led weaning (BLW). Serve it for breakfast or a healthy snack, in bite-sized pieces or whole. We like to add a side of yogurt for dipping, makes mealtime more exciting & engaging for babies & toddlers, for older kids and adults you can drizzle a little maple syrup on top.

One of the main benefits of making healthy apple fritters at home is there is no added sugar, no refined sugar and honestly there is no need for it. The sweetness of the apples are just right for those little developing tastebuds. They are freezer friendly and great for easy, grab-and-go snacks. Simply pull 1 out of the freezer and reheat in the microwave or on a skillet to warm them up. Excellent for busy days or on the go. With their soft texture and natural sweetness, apple fritters are sure to be a hit with your little one.

Nutritional Benefits of Apple Fritters for baby & toddler:

Apples: An excellent source of fiber, which is beneficial for digestion and helps to prevent constipation, a common concern when transitioning babies to solid foods. Apples also provide vitamin C, an essential nutrient that supports a strong immune system and promotes healthy skin and tissue repair. They are naturally sweet, making them a great ingredient for a treat without the need for added sugar. The antioxidants in apples, such as flavonoids, help protect cells from oxidative stress, supporting overall health.

Eggs: A great source of protein, which is essential for your baby’s growth and development, especially as they transition to more solid foods. Eggs also contain vitamin D, important for bone health, and choline, which is crucial for brain development.

Whole Grain Flour: When making apple fritters for babies and toddlers, opting for whole grain flour (such as whole wheat flour) boosts the fiber content and provides a higher concentration of vitamins and minerals compared to refined flours. Whole grain flour contains B vitamins, which support energy production and brain function, and magnesium, which contributes to healthy bone development. The fiber in whole grain flour also supports digestion and helps keep toddlers feeling fuller for longer, reducing the need for constant snacking.

Ingredients & Substitutions:

Apples: Any apples you prefer will work in this recipe, some are sweeter than others. You can swap apples for another sweet fruit, like pear.

Eggs: I personally haven’t tried substituting the egg in this recipe, but some people have had success with flax eggs or adding a little more flour with non-dairy milk. For flax egg add 2 tbsp of ground flaxseed with 5 tbsp of water and let it sit for 15 minutes, until it thickens.

Flour: In this recipe I used white spelt flour, but you can use any flour you prefer. For example: all-purpose, whole wheat, white whole wheat, oat flour or gluten free flour.

Butter- We love butter in our household, but if you prefer a dairy-free version cook the fritters in coconut oil, it pairs really well with it.

For smaller quantity:

This recipe comes out around 11-12 fritters. For a smaller quantity you can do (comes out 4-5 fritters):

1 apple

1 egg

2 tbsp flour

Dash of cinnamon

What you need:

A non-stick pan. I like to use my Our Place non-toxic, made with no forever chemicals pan. The fritters come out perfect and don’t need a lot of oil.

LOVE this recipe – have made if 4x now. Definitely recommend with vanilla and cinnamon (so yummy for adults too!). I’ve used granny smith apples so far, quite tasty that way. Wanting to try some sweeter apples too. Super easy to make, baby loves them, I love them 🙂
