A Smoothie for Everyone:
Whether you’re serving it to kids as a nutrient-dense snack, drinking it after a workout, or enjoying it as a quick breakfast, this blueberry banana spinach smoothie is a simple and effective way to nourish your body. Its vibrant flavor and nutritional benefits make it a winner, proving that healthy eating can be delicious and fun.
Nutritional Benefits:
Bananas for Energy:
Bananas are packed with potassium and natural sugars that provide a quick energy boost. They also contribute to the smoothie’s creamy texture, making it easier for kids to drink.
Blueberries for Brain Power:
Blueberries are rich in antioxidants, particularly anthocyanins, which support brain health and memory. They’re also high in vitamin C, which strengthens the immune system. I like to use wild blueberries, which has 10x the amount of antioxidants than regular ones, but both can be used.
Spinach for Growth:
Spinach is a powerhouse of nutrients, including iron, which supports healthy blood and oxygen transport in the body. It’s also a good source of protein and calcium, essential for growing bones and teeth.
Recommendations:
- Start Small with Spinach: If your child is new to green smoothies, begin with a smaller amount of spinach and gradually increase it over time.
- Make it a Frozen Treat: Pour the smoothie into popsicle molds for a healthy dessert option.
- Involve Your Child: Let your child help measure ingredients and press the blender buttons, it makes the process fun and engaging.
Substitutions:
This smoothie is extremely kid-friendly. It is vegan, allergen-friendly, made with no gluten, no dairy and nut-free.
Spinach- For the spinach you can substitute with another leafy green, such as kale.
Blueberries- I like to use wild blueberries, but you can use normal ones as well or if you prefer a different berry, like strawberries or blackberries.
Banana- This adds sweetness and creaminess to the smoothie, I don’t recommend replacing it in this recipe.
Date- You can substitute the date with a little honey for 12 months & up or omit all together.
Non-dairy milk- Any non-dairy milk will work in this recipe, for example almond milk, oat milk, coconut milk, soy milk, etc.
