No-Sugar Fruit Danish Dessert for Kids: A Naturally Sweet Treat

When it comes to desserts for kids, finding something delicious yet wholesome can feel like a challenge. A no-sugar fruit Danish is a fantastic solution, offering a naturally sweet treat that satisfies without added sugar. Perfect for breakfast, snack time, or dessert, this dish is made with a flaky butter puff pastry crust, creamy cheese filling, and the natural sweetness of fresh fruit. It is extremely easy to make, ready in less than 15 minutes and always a crowd pleaser! They come out looking so pretty, you can easily serve them at a kid’s birthday party, dinner party, a playdate or a special breakfast!

Why No-Sugar Fruit Danish?

-Naturally Sweetened:
Fresh fruit provides natural sugars and adds vibrant flavors to the Danish, eliminating the need for processed sweeteners. I like to top it with a little honey but you can omit for 12 months & younger.

-Kid-Friendly and Fun:
Kids love bright colors and fun shapes, and this Danish can be made in mini sizes perfect for little hands. Involving them in decorating the fruit on top makes it an engaging and educational activity. They can add whichever fruit or berries they prefer, or even a little jam. It’s easy to adapt to seasonal produce, keeping it fresh and exciting year-round.

-Easy & Great for Celebrations:
You can whip these up within 15 minutes and it really comes out looking store-bought. Serve for a special breakfast, kid’s playdate or birthday party.

Tips for Success:

-Make sure to thaw out your puff pastry the night before or take out for 40 min to defrost.

-Cut your puff pastry into 6 equal squares and cut another little square in the middle, that way you can add your filling easily, while leaving the edges exposed.

Substitutions:

Puff Pastry- You can make your own puff pastry dough or I found a clean, no hydrogenated oil one at Trader Joes.

Soft Cheese- I used cream cheese, but any soft cheese you prefer will work. For non-dairy option, swap for plant-based, non dairy cheese.

Fruit- We chose to use strawberries and blueberries with a drizzle of honey. You can use cherries, berries of choice, pears, apples, jam of choice, etc.

Egg wash- You will need to brush exposed dough with egg. If needed, you can replace egg with some milk or heavy cream.
