Banana Orange Bread for Babies & Toddlers: A Healthy Dessert for 9 months & up
When it comes to baked goods for babies and toddlers, natural sweetness and wholesome ingredients are key. This banana orange bread is a soft, moist loaf, making it easy for babies to chew and swallow. A naturally sweetened treat made without refined sugar, just the goodness of ripe bananas and fresh oranges! It’s perfect for little ones who are starting solids and can also be enjoyed by the whole family.
This baby-friendly loaf is easy to make, all in one bowl, packed with vitamins and nutrients, offering a delicious way to introduce citrus flavors while keeping it gentle on tiny tummies. With the natural sweetness from bananas and oranges, plus a soft, easy-to-chew texture, this bread is a great snack, breakfast option, or even a healthy dessert for babies. I like to meal prep it for my little one, slice it up and put in the freezer. When ready to eat I just pull a slice out, toast it and serve!
Why This Banana Orange Bread Is Perfect for Babies & Toddlers:
Naturally Sweetened – No added sugar, just fruit for sweetness.
Soft & Moist – This healthy dessert for babies comes out so soft and moist, making it easy for little ones to chew and swallow.
Nutrient-Packed – Bananas provide potassium, oranges offer vitamin C.
Perfect for Baby-Led Weaning (BLW) – For 9 months & up you can cut up some smaller pieces and have baby practiced their pincer grasp.
Freezer-Friendly – This loaf freezes great, I recommend slicing it up, adding to a Ziplock and when ready to eat, pull one out and heat up, making your week a little easier.
Serving Ideas for Different Ages:
- 9+ Months: Serve as soft, bite-sized pieces or mash into yogurt.
- 12+ Months: The loaf is not sweet enough for my little one’s, so we love to add a smear of grass-fed butter and a drizzle of honey, this is the BEST way to serve it! You can drizzle nut butter or smear some cream cheese as well. It can be served for breakfast, snack or healthy dessert for little ones.
What you need:
Orange squeezer if squeezing your own orange juice
Ingredients & Substitutions:
Orange Juice- You can use freshly squeezed or store-bought orange juice.
Bananas- I don’t recommend replacing the bananas in this recipe, that is what gives flavor and makes it sweet. I recommend using very ripe bananas, the riper the banana the sweeter the loaf will be.
Whole milk plain yogurt- You can use greek yogurt or a non-dairy yogurt, like coconut yogurt.
Eggs- I haven’t played around with this recipe, so I have not done an egg-free version yet.
Orange Zest- This is a must in the recipe, if you omit the zest you won’t get a nice orange flavor.
Melted Butter- This can be substituted with any neutral oil or coconut oil.
White Spelt Flour- I have been loving this flour, but if you can’t find it you can use all-purpose, white whole wheat or self-rising flour. If using self-rising flour, do not add baking powder.

This was a hit! My baby loved it with a drizzle of honey! Do you know if this is ok if frozen for longer than a month? I just found some in the bottom of my freezer and it is a closer to the 2 month mark 😅
We added a little butter on top like you suggested without the honey for my 10 month old and she ate her whole slice! Thank you!
