Broccoli Cheese Tots: A yummy, nutritious, soft tot for 7 month baby & up
Broccoli and cheese tots are a nutritious, soft, and easy-to-hold food perfect for babies starting their baby-led weaning (BLW) journey, or if you are looking for tasty recipes to transition your baby from purees to finger foods, a lot of parents have had success with tots and these do not disappoint! For some reason the combination of the broccoli & cheese pair so well together and comes out so flavorful.
Zion loves these tots, they are one of his favorites from all the tot recipes, I myself have to stop myself from eating all of them. With just 3 simple ingredients, these tots come out very soft, delicious and are a great way for baby to practice self-feeding. They are freezer-friendly and are an excellent recipe to meal prep and have in the freezer for a busy day. They can be served as a snack paired with some fruit or as a yummy side dish. Easy to prepare and packed with nutrients, this is a must try for all parents!
Why Broccoli Cheese Tots for Baby-Led Weaning:
Baby-led weaning (BLW) encourages babies to explore different foods independently, allowing them to pick up, taste, and eat at their own pace. Broccoli cheese tots are ideal for this approach because they’re the right size and texture for small hands to grasp. These tots can be baked to a texture that’s soft enough for babies to manage but still firm enough to hold together, making them perfect for BLW.
The tots offer a soft interior with a slightly firmer exterior, helping babies learn to chew and practice their pincer grasp. Chewing these tots promotes jaw strength and encourages hand-to-mouth coordination, both essential skills in their early development.
Substitutions:
Broccoli: Can be substituted with another veggie of choice, like cauliflower.
Potato: I don't recommend substituting the potato in this recipe, it helps hold the tot together.
Cheese: You can use cheddar, mozzarella, swiss or any shredded cheese of choice. If you want to make a dairy-free tot, try adding 2-3 tbsp of flour.
What you need:
You can easily make these tots in an
air fryer or oven.
If made in an oven you will need a
baking pan.
