I know I probably say this about a lot of recipes, but as of right now Buttered Date Oatmeal is my favorite recipe on the blog! Wow, wow, wow! Buttered date oatmeal is a warm, creamy, naturally sweetened breakfast option that combines the wholesome goodness of oats with the rich flavor of dates and a touch of buttery decadence. Perfect for kids and adults alike, this dish offers a nutritious start to the day, packed with fiber, vitamins, and natural energy. My whole household, including both kids are obsessed with this breakfast! Especially in these winter months, you wake up in the morning to crisp cold air, craving something warm and cozy, this is the one guys! Hope you like it as much as we do.

 

Why Buttered Date Oatmeal for Breakfast?

-What’s great about this recipe it is family-friendly, baby, toddlers, kids and adults can all enjoy it.

-It is vegan, allergen-friendly, nut-free, egg-free and gluten-free. Made with no refined sugar.

-It is very easy to make, great for busy mornings, ready within 10 minutes.

-This oatmeal bowl is super versatile, you can add chia seeds, flaxseeds for extra nutrients, for older kids and adults add a pinch of salt with some chopped walnuts, but honestly it is really good on its own.

 

Nutritional Benefits:

Butter– Believe it or not grass-fed butter is an amazing healthy fat for baby and kids. Butter is rich in saturated fats, which are essential for energy and play a role in the development of the brain, especially in younger children. It also contains omega-3 fatty acids, which support brain and eye health and a natural source of vitamin A, which is crucial for vision, immune system function, and skin health. When choosing the right butter, get a good quality unsalted grass-fed butter.

 

Oats– The fiber in oats promotes a healthy gut by aiding digestion and preventing constipation. A healthy digestive system improves nutrient absorption, which is vital for growing children. Oats are a complex carbohydrate, providing a steady release of energy. This makes them an excellent breakfast option to keep kids energized and focused throughout the day, especially during school or playtime. They are a good source of iron, zinc, magnesium, phosphorus, and B vitamins, all essential for energy production, brain function, and overall growth.

 

Dates- Dates are great for the immune system! They have lots of antioxidants like flavonoids, carotenoids, and phenolic acid, dates help protect cells from damage and strengthen the immune system, reducing the risk of illnesses. High in fiber, which helps prevent constipation and promotes regular bowel movements. Rich in iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium & more!

 

Substitutions:

Butter- For dairy-free option you can swap butter with coconut oil

Non-dairy milk- You can choose whichever milk or non-dairy milk you prefer. For example cow milk, almond milk, oat milk, soy milk, etc.

I don’t recommend substituting any other ingredients for this recipe.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Add butter in small pot
  1. On medium heat add oats and toast for 1 minute
  1. Add water, along with pitted dates and cook for a few minutes
  1. Add non-dairy milk and cook for additional 5 minutes
  1. Start mashing your dates a little, the peel should come right off and remove what you can
  1. Blend till desired consistency
  1. Serve with a little more butter on top & enjoy!
