Nutritional Benefits:

Chicken Drumsticks – Rich in protein, iron, and healthy fats, essential for muscle and brain development.
Potatoes – A great source of energy, fiber, and potassium for active kids.
Olive Oil – Provides healthy monounsaturated fats for heart health.

How to Safely Serve Chicken Drumsticks for Baby-Led Weaning (BLW):

Introducing chicken drumsticks to babies through baby-led weaning (BLW) can be a great way to encourage self-feeding, motor skills, and exposure to new textures. However, safety is key when serving chicken to babies.

Remove the skin – It can be chewy and difficult for babies to handle.
Check for small bones or cartilage – Ensure only the large drumstick bone remains, there is an inner thin bone that you must take out if giving baby whole drumstick.
Watch for choking hazards – Babies should be supervised at all times while eating.

Babies (9+ Months) – Shred or finely chop chicken and mash the potatoes.

Toddlers & up – Serve soft drumstick meat with potato wedges.

Ingredients & Substitutions:

Chicken Drumsticks- You can use bone in chicken thighs in this recipe as well. Make sure to make with skin on, this is very important as it keeps the moisture while cooking.

Potatoes- I love gold potatoes in this recipe, they come out so yummy. You can use any potatoes you prefer or swap for sweet potatoes.

Olive oil- This can be substituted with any neutral oil you prefer.

Date Syrup- This can be substituted with honey for 12 months & up.

What you need:

Oven Safe Dish– ceramic or glass

Parchment Paper– the damp parchment paper will be placed on top of the chicken and potatoes for the first 45 minutes of cooking, creating heat and steam to cook the chicken and potatoes really well while keeping it moist.
