These Pumpkin Apple Tots are the perfect baby-led weaning food for babies 6 months & up. These little bites are packed with nutrients, soft enough for tiny hands and gums to manage, and naturally sweetened with apple and pumpkin. They offer an easy and healthy way to introduce your baby to wholesome ingredients, encouraging self-feeding and exploring new textures and flavors. Coming out so soft, specifically intended for little ones starting solids, making them easy to chew, but hold a firm texture for babies to self-feed. They are so easy and simple to make, with only 3 wholesome ingredients.
Nutritional Benefits of Pumpkin Apple Tots:
Both pumpkin and apple are nutrient-dense foods that contribute significantly to your baby’s development. Pumpkin is rich in
vitamin A (beta-carotene), which is essential for healthy eyesight and immune system function. It also provides fiber, which promotes healthy digestion. Apples are another nutritional powerhouse, packed with
vitamin C for immune health, as well as fiber to support gut health.
Why Pumpkin Apple Tots Are Perfect for BLW:
These tots are an excellent choice for baby-led weaning because they encourage self-feeding and fine motor skills. Their soft texture is easy for babies to gum, and the naturally sweet taste appeals to young palates. The tots are also easy to hold, making them ideal for babies learning to grasp and self-feed. If you are recently starting solids or if you have a little one who is starting to transition from purees to solids, you have to give these a try! These soft tots are allergen friendly, vegan, egg-free, dairy-free and nut-free.
Tips for Serving and Storing:
Serve the tots plain, or pair them with a baby-safe dip like unsweetened yogurt or mashed avocado for added variety. Leftover tots can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days or frozen for longer storage.
Substitutions:
Pumpkin: I used Kabocha Squash, known as Chinese pumpkin for this recipe. Any pumpkin will work or butternut squash.
Apple: I don't recommend substituting the apple in this recipe.
Flour: I used all-purpose, but you can swap for whole wheat, white whole wheat, white spelt or oat flour. With oat flour you most likely will have to add a little more than 3 tbsp.
What you need:
Steamer, I recommend the Beaba
babycook for all your baby food needs.
Baking tray
Parchment Paper
