This recipe is for 7 month old baby & up
These Sweet Potato Carrot Cheesy Tots come out absolutely delicious, I always have to stop myself from eating them!
They are so yummy and made with 3 simple ingredients! If you are looking for foods to transition your little one from puree to solids or you are practicing baby led weaning (BLW), this is a great recipe to try out. It's perfect for meal-prepping and having some in the freezer on those busy days. They are very easy and simple to prepare, all in all takes about 20-25 min. These tots combine the natural sweetness of sweet potatoes and carrots with the savory richness of melted cheese, creating a flavorful bite that's both fun and healthy.
Both sweet potatoes and carrots are rich in essential vitamins and minerals. Sweet potatoes are known for their high vitamin A content, which is crucial for healthy eyesight, immune function, and skin health. They also provide fiber, which aids digestion and helps prevent constipation in young children. Carrots are also high in vitamin A, as well as vitamin C and potassium, making them excellent for boosting the immune system and promoting healthy skin. Combined, these veggies are a vibrant, naturally sweet base for the cheesy tots. The addition of cheese not only enhances the flavor but also provides much-needed protein and calcium. These nutrients are essential for strong bone development and muscle growth in young children.
Cheese also adds a creamy, rich texture that makes the tots even more appealing to little taste buds. Whether you use cheddar, mozzarella, or another mild cheese, it will melt beautifully into the veggies, creating a delicious bite-sized snack that babies and toddlers will love. These can be served for lunch, dinner or a quick healthy snack, along side some fruit.
Substitutions:
If you are dairy-free, you can sub the cheese for 2 tbsp flour of choice
Sweet potato: You can substitute the sweet potato with butternut squash or pumpkin
Carrots: I don't recommend substituting the carrots with anything and leaving as is
What you need:
You need a
steamer for this recipe, if you don't have one you can boil the veggies, but make sure to drain really well, added moisture might cause the tot to be too soft, and will not hold properly.
