Blueberry Cottage Cheese Slice

Blueberry Cottage Cheese Slice ๐Ÿซ

If youโ€™re always looking for easy recipes you can make ahead for your little ones, this Blueberry Cottage Cheese Slice needs to be on your list! Itโ€™s one of those recipes that looks and tastes like a treat but is made with simple, wholesome ingredients you can feel good about serving your kids. Itโ€™s soft, fluffy, naturally sweet, and packed with protein, and my toddler absolutely loves it!

I especially love this recipe because it takes less than 30 minutes from start to finish and everything comes together in one bowl. No complicated steps, no mixer, and hardly any cleanup. ๐Ÿ™Œ

The texture is one of my favorite things about this slice. The combination of eggs and whole milk cottage cheese makes it incredibly soft and tender, while the blueberries add little bursts of sweetness throughout. Itโ€™s perfect for little hands and easy to cut into bars or squares for serving.

And there are so many ways to enjoy it! Serve it for breakfast with some yogurt and fresh fruit, as an afternoon snack, as a healthier dessert, or pack it into lunchboxes for an easy homemade option.

๐Ÿซ Why You’ll Love This Blueberry Cottage Cheese Slice

  • One-bowl recipe โ€” everything is mixed together in one bowl for easy prep and cleanup.
  • Ready in under 30 minutes โ€” perfect for busy mornings or when you need a quick homemade snack.
  • Protein-packed โ€” eggs and cottage cheese add a boost of protein.
  • Made with whole milk cottage cheese โ€” full-fat dairy provides fats that are important for growing babies and toddlers.
  • No refined sugar โ€” naturally sweetened with maple syrup and blueberries.
  • Toddler-approved โ€” soft, fluffy, and naturally sweet. Even the pickiest of eaters enjoy a slice.
  • Lunchbox-friendly โ€” easy to slice into bars and pack for school or daycare.
  • Freezer-friendly โ€” make a batch ahead of time so you always have an easy snack ready. You can thaw or reheat a little in microwave and it taste just as it did when it came out of the oven.

๐Ÿ’ช Nutritional Benefits

๐Ÿฅš Eggs

Eggs provide protein along with several important nutrients, like choline, DHA, making them a great addition to recipes for growing babies and toddlers.

๐Ÿฅ› Whole Milk Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese is a great source of protein and, when you choose whole milk cottage cheese, it also provides fat. Healthy fats are important for babies and toddlers and are an easy way to add extra nutrition to their meals and snacks.

๐Ÿซ Blueberries

Blueberries add natural sweetness, fiber, and antioxidants. I love using wild blueberries, but regular fresh blueberries work too!

๐Ÿ Maple Syrup

This recipe uses maple syrup instead of refined sugar, giving the slice just enough sweetness without needing granulated sugar.

๐Ÿ‘ถ Why It’s Great for Babies & Toddlers

This slice has a soft and tender texture, making it easy for little ones to eat. For babies practicing self-feeding, you can cut it into age-appropriate strips or pieces depending on their eating skills.

For toddlers, cut it into small squares that are easy to pick up and add to a snack plate or lunchbox.

Note: Maple syrup is an added sugar, so for babies under 12 months, you can omit it if preferred.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Ways to Serve

There are so many ways to serve this blueberry slice:

  • ๐Ÿฅฃ Breakfast: Pair with whole milk yogurt and fresh fruit.
  • ๐Ÿ“ Snack: Serve on its own for an easy afternoon snack.
  • ๐Ÿจ Healthier dessert: Warm it slightly and serve with yogurt or berries.
  • ๐ŸŽ’ Lunchbox: Cut into small bars and pack alongside fruit and a protein.
  • ๐Ÿฅœ Extra protein: Serve with a thin spread of peanut or almond butter if appropriate for your child and allergies have been introduced.

โœจ Tips for the Best Blueberry Cottage Cheese Slice

  • Sift your flour before adding it to the batter for an extra fluffy texture or you can use pre-sifted flour.
  • Mix the batter just until everything is combinedโ€”overmixing can make the slice more dense.
  • If using fresh blueberries, gently fold them in. You can slice them in halves or smush before adding them to prevent choking hazards.
  • Allow the slice to cool before cutting so it holds together nicely.
  • Cut into bars or squares depending on your child’s age and eating skills.

This is truly one of those recipes I love having on hand. Itโ€™s quick enough to make on a busy weekday, nutritious enough for breakfast or a snack, and delicious enough that my toddler thinks heโ€™s getting a treat! ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒพ Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

  • White spelt flour: This is what I use for a light, fluffy texture.
  • All-purpose flour: You can easily substitute all-purpose flour for the white spelt flour.
  • Wild blueberries: I love the smaller berries throughout the slice, but fresh blueberries work perfectly too.
  • Whole milk cottage cheese: I recommend whole milk cottage cheese for babies and toddlers because of the added fat. Can replace with whole milk plain yogurt.
  • Avocado oil: Adds healthy fat and keeps the slice moist. Can substitute with another neutral oil of choice or melted butter or melted coconut oil.
  • Maple syrup: Use pure maple syrup for the best flavor. You can reduce or omit it depending on your preference. You can also substitute with honey for 12 months & up.
