Baby-Friendly Scones (no added sugar)

🫖 Baby-Friendly Scones (No Added Sugar)- for 10 months & up

There is something so cozy about fresh homemade scones straight from the oven, and these have become one of my favorite things to bake when I want something simple but still feels special. I love that they come together with just a handful of ingredients and don’t require any waiting around for dough to rise. In less than 30 minutes, you have soft, buttery homemade scones ready to enjoy.

These are one of those recipes that work for everyone in the family. They’re made without added sugar but still taste so delicious thanks to their rich buttery flavor and tender texture. Serve them plain, spread with homemade strawberry jam, topped with butter, or with fresh cream and berries. These baby-friendly scones honestly feel like something from a little bakery but are so easy to make at home.

❤️ Why You’ll Love These Scones

These baby-friendly scones (no added sugar) are:

  • No added sugar
  • Made with simple ingredients
  • Quick to prepare
  • Ready in minutes
  • Soft and buttery
  • Great for babies and toddlers
  • Perfect for breakfast or snack time
  • Family-friendly
  • Great for lunchboxes

✨ Simple Ingredients

These scones are made with only a few ingredients:

  • Flour
  • Baking powder
  • Butter
  • Milk
  • Lemon juice

That’s it.

The lemon juice reacts with the milk to create a homemade buttermilk effect, which helps make the scones soft and tender.

Butter gives richness and that classic bakery-style texture.

The result is a light, fluffy scone with a beautiful crumb that tastes delicious all on its own.

👶 Why They’re Great for Little Ones

I love these for babies because they don’t rely on added sugars to taste good.

The buttery flavor and soft texture make them enjoyable while allowing babies and toddlers to explore simple flavors.

For younger babies, you can serve soft pieces with toppings spread lightly.

For older babies and toddlers, they’re easy to hold independently.

These are especially great for:

  • Breakfast
  • Morning snack
  • Afternoon snack
  • Tea time
  • Lunchboxes
  • On-the-go meals

🍓 Ways to Serve

These baby-friendly scones (no added sugar) are delicious plain, but toppings make them even more special.

Try serving with:

  • Homemade strawberry jam
  • Fresh cream with berries
  • Mashed strawberries
  • Yogurt and fruit
  • Nut butter
  • Fresh sliced fruit

One of my favorite ways is warm with homemade strawberry jam, it feels so cozy and delicious.

✨ Tips for Success

  • Use cold butter. This is one of the most important steps for soft, tender scones with beautiful layers. Cold butter creates steam while baking and helps give that classic fluffy texture.
  • Don’t overwork the dough. Mix only until everything comes together. Touching and handling the dough too much can make the scones tougher instead of light and tender.
  • Shape into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Press the dough gently into a rectangle about 1 inch thick before cutting—it gives the perfect scone height.
  • Cut into triangles. This helps create that classic bakery-style scone shape and allows even baking.
  • Use an egg wash for the prettiest color. I noticed they come out with a much more beautiful golden finish when brushed with egg wash before baking.
  • No egg? Brush with milk instead. If you prefer not to use egg wash, brushing with a little milk still gives a lovely finish.
  • Don’t overbake. Since they bake quickly in just 12–13 minutes, keep an eye on them so they stay soft and tender.
  • Serve slightly warm if possible. They’re especially delicious fresh from the oven with butter, jam, or cream.
