Easy Baked Chicken Nuggets for Kids (Healthy & Crispy)

🍗 Easy Baked Chicken Nuggets for Kids (Healthy & Crispy!)

If you’re looking for a go-to recipe that your kids will actually get excited about, these simple baked chicken nuggets are it. And honestly, skip the freezer aisle. Store-bought chicken nuggets are often filled with preservatives, unnecessary ingredients, and even added sugars. These homemade nuggets are so much better: made with clean, simple ingredients, baked instead of fried, and they freeze and reheat perfectly.

They come out crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and are loved by everyone—toddlers, kids, and adults alike. Whether you’re making a quick dinner, prepping for the week, or packing a kids lunchbox or daycare lunch, this recipe is one your kids will devour, I know mine do! I love to have them in my freezer on busy days, I just reheat a few in the air fryer and serve with a dip, fruit and voila! You have a quick lunch or dinner that your kids are going to love.

💛 Why Parents & Kids Love These Easy Baked Chicken Nuggets for Kids (Healthy & Crispy)

These nuggets are a staple for so many families, and for good reason:

  • Baked, not fried – a healthier option with less oil
  • Crispy texture kids love
  • Simple, wholesome ingredients
  • Freezer-friendly and great for meal prep
  • Perfect for dipping (ketchup, honey mustard, or yogurt dips!) Try it with my homemade kid-friendly honey mustard!)

Kids love the familiar taste and crunch, while parents love knowing exactly what’s going into them.

💡 Tips for Success

  • After seasoning the ground chicken, set up a dredging station with whisked eggs and breadcrumbs for easy assembly
  • The key step: line your baking tray with parchment paper and drizzle olive oil underneath the nuggets—this helps them crisp up beautifully on the bottom
  • You still need to flip the nuggets halfway through baking and lightly spray or brush with oil for even crispiness
  • If using plain breadcrumbs, don’t forget to season them for extra flavor
  • Use a small cookie scoop or tablespoon to portion the chicken so all nuggets are similar in size and cook evenly

🍽️ What to Serve With

These kid-friendly baked chicken nuggets pair perfectly with:

  • French fries or sweet potato fries 🍟
  • Fresh fruit like berries or apple slices 🍎
  • Steamed veggies like broccoli or carrots
  • Dips like ketchup, honey mustard, or yogurt-based sauces

🧊 Great for Meal Prep + Storage & Reheating

These nuggets are perfect for meal prep and busy weeks:

  • Fridge: Store cooked nuggets in an airtight container for up to 3 days
  • Freezer: (Personally this is the best way to store). Let nuggets cool completely, then freeze in a single layer in bag or container for up to 2 months

Reheating Tips:

  • Oven or Air Fryer (best method): Reheat at 350°F for a few minutes until hot and crispy
  • From frozen: Bake or air fry straight from frozen just add a few extra minutes
  • Microwave: Works in a pinch, but the nuggets will be softer

Having a batch ready to go makes kids lunches, daycare lunchboxes, and quick dinners so much easier.

🔄 Substitutions & Variations

  • Breadcrumbs: Use panko for extra crunch or crushed cornflakes
  • Gluten-free: Swap for gluten-free breadcrumbs
  • Chicken: Ground turkey works well too
  • Dairy-free: Keep as is or ensure breadcrumbs are dairy-free
