Fluffy Applesauce Muffins

Fluffy Applesauce Muffins (One bowl, Easy, Healthy Snack for 9 months & up)

These fluffy applesauce muffins are honestly one of the easiest and yummiest muffin recipes I make and the one we always come back to. Out of all the muffins I’ve baked over the years, these are the ones my kids love, love, and ask for again and again. They’re soft, moist, lightly spiced, and completely foolproof, which makes them perfect for beginner bakers or anyone who wants a reliable, no-stress bake.

They’re also soft and moist enough for babies and toddlers from 9 months and up, making them a great option when little ones are transitioning to firmer textures. The gentle sweetness and tender crumb make them easy to chew, while still being enjoyable for older kids and adults. There really is no getting this recipe wrong.

Why These Muffins Are a Family Favorite 💛

  • Beginner-friendly – Extremely easy to make and always come out good

  • Soft & moist – Ideal for babies 9 months+ and toddlers

  • Kid-approved – Beautiful flavor kids love

  • Naturally sweetened – No refined sugar, you can sweetened with maple syrup or date syrup

  • Perfect anytime – Breakfast, snack, travel snack or lunchbox treat

Why Applesauce Makes These Muffins So Good

Applesauce is the secret ingredient that makes these muffins practically foolproof. It keeps them soft without being dense, creates a fluffy crumb, and adds just enough natural sweetness. For babies and toddlers, this softness makes them easier to manage, while older kids and adults still enjoy the yummy flavor.

Serving Tips by Age:

9–12 months:

  • Offer small, soft pieces or gently crumble the muffin

  • Serve with a little butter or side of yogurt and fruit

  • Great for practicing self-feeding with soft textures

12–18 months:

  • Cut into small bite-sized cubes or thick strips

  • Pair with yogurt or fruit for a balanced snack

  • Easy to hold and chew

18 months–3 years:

  • Serve half or a full muffin

  • Spread lightly with butter or nut/seed butter (if tolerated) and a cup of milk

  • Perfect for breakfast, snack time, or on-the-go

Substitutions:

  • Flour:
All-purpose flour works great, but you can also use white spelt flour, which is what I used.

  • Oil:
Avocado oil can be swapped for melted coconut oil or light olive oil. Use a neutral-flavored oil.

  • Sweetener:
Maple syrup can be replaced with date syrup. Both work beautifully and keep the muffins naturally sweetened without refined sugar.

  • Applesauce:
Unsweetened applesauce is best, but homemade applesauce works just as well. If using sweetened applesauce, you may want to slightly reduce the syrup.
