Golden Chickpea Chicken Potato Bowl

Golden Chickpea Chicken Potato Bowl- A healthy, hearty family-friendly dinner idea starting from 9 months old & up

When you want a warm, nourishing meal that’s simple to make and loved by little ones and grownups alike, this Golden Chickpea Chicken Potato Bowl is the perfect choice. Made with bone-in chicken, tender potatoes, hearty chickpeas, and flavored with onion and turmeric, everything simmers together slowly in a flavorful broth until soft and fall-off-the-bone tender. It’s a complete, balanced meal with protein, fiber, healthy fats, and gentle spices and it’s baby-approved from 9 months and up!

Why This Chickpea Chicken Potato Bowl is a Great Family Meal:

  • One-pot simplicity: Just add everything to the pot and let it gently simmer—easy prep, minimal cleanup.

  • Tender textures for babies: The slow cooking makes everything incredibly soft—ideal for babies still developing their chewing skills.

  • Full of flavor without spice: This dish is aromatic and savory thanks to onion and turmeric, you’d be surprised how much flavor it has!

  • Customizable for everyone: This beautiful, family-friendly dinner idea is great for all ages. Adults can enjoy it too with a squeeze of lemon, a pinch of salt, or served over rice, while babies can eat it as-is or lightly mashed.

Nutritional Benefits:

  • Chicken (especially bone-in and skin on): A great source of iron, zinc, protein, and collagen—all essential for growth and development.

  • Chickpeas: Provide plant-based protein, fiber for digestion, and folate for brain health.

  • Potatoes: A wholesome carbohydrate rich in vitamin C, potassium, and energy for active little ones.

  • Turmeric: A gentle anti-inflammatory spice that supports the immune system and adds a warm golden color.

  • Onions: Rich in antioxidants and naturally enhance flavor without added salt.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Babies 9 months+: Serve soft chunks of potato, chickpeas, and chicken, or gently mash with a fork. Offer with a spoon for self-feeding or assist as needed.

  • Toddlers: Serve in a bowl as-is, or with a piece of bread or cooked rice.

  • Adults & older kids: Add a sprinkle of sea salt, fresh herbs (like parsley), or a squeeze of lemon juice for brightness. Can also be served over couscous or quinoa for variety. Add a simple fresh salad to it of lettuce, tomato, cucumber with a basic olive oil, lemon dressing (this is how I eat it).

Storage Instructions:

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

  • Freeze portions in baby-safe containers for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat gently before serving.
