Sweet Potato Avocado Chicken Puree (6 months & Up) 🥑🍠🐔

If you’re looking for a simple, nourishing baby meal, suitable for 6 months & up, this Sweet Potato Avocado Chicken Puree is a wonderful option. Made with just three wholesome ingredients sweet potato, avocado, and chicken. This puree is packed with nutrients that support your baby’s growth and development.

The combination may sound simple, but it creates a creamy, balanced, and satisfying meal that babies tend to love. Together they create a perfectly balanced puree that is gentle on little tummies and very filling.

This recipe is great for babies who are starting solids, doing baby-led weaning (BLW), or transitioning to more textured foods. It can easily be adjusted in consistency depending on your baby’s stage.

Why Babies Love This Sweet Potato Avocado Chicken Puree❤️

Naturally creamy – no dairy needed
Very simple ingredients – just whole, real foods
Easy to digest for babies
Great for meal prep – make ahead and store

Nutritional Benefits 🌱

This puree may be simple, but each ingredient offers incredible nutrition for growing babies.

🍠 Sweet Potato

Sweet potatoes are one of the best first foods for babies.

• Rich in beta-carotene, which supports healthy vision and immune function
• Naturally sweet and easy to digest
• High in fiber, which supports digestion
• Packed with vitamin A, vitamin C, and potassium

They also blend beautifully into purees, creating a smooth and creamy base.

🥑 Avocado

Avocado is considered one of the best foods for brain development.

• Full of healthy monounsaturated fats that support brain growth
• Naturally soft and creamy
• Contains fiber, potassium, folate, and vitamins C, E, and K
• Helps make the puree extra smooth and satisfying

🐔 Chicken

Chicken adds important protein and iron to this meal.

• Excellent source of high-quality protein
• Provides iron, which babies need after 6 months when their iron stores begin to drop
• Supports muscle growth and development
• Blends well into purees when cooked until tender

Texture Tips 👶

You can easily adjust the consistency depending on your baby’s stage:

For younger babies: blend completely smooth and add water, breast milk, or formula to thin it out.
For older babies: make it thicker or mash instead of fully blending.
For BLW: serve thicker or slightly mashed so babies can scoop or grab.

How to Serve 🍽️

This puree is incredibly versatile and works for many stages.

• Serve as a smooth puree for babies starting solids
• Offer slightly mashed for babies learning texture
• Serve thicker alongside other foods for baby-led weaning
• Pair with soft rice, quinoa, or pasta for toddlers

Substitutions & Variations 🔄

This Sweet Potato Avocado Chicken Puree is very flexible and easy to adapt depending on what you have at home or your baby’s preferences.

Chicken: You can substitute chicken with turkey for a very similar flavor and protein content. You could also use shredded rotisserie chicken if you’re short on time—just make sure it’s plain and not heavily seasoned.

Sweet Potato: If you don’t have sweet potato, you can replace it with butternut squash, pumpkin, or regular potato. All of these blend nicely and create a soft, creamy texture.

Avocado: Avocado adds healthy fats and creaminess. You can substitute it with olive oil (about 1–2 teaspoons) or full-fat plain yogurt.

Liquid for Blending: Instead of water, you can thin the puree with breast milk, formula, or unsalted homemade chicken broth.

Add More Veggies: You can blend in additional vegetables like zucchini, carrots, or peas for even more nutrients.

Add Grains: Mix in cooked rice, quinoa, or small pasta after blending.

For Extra Flavor (Older Babies/Toddlers): A tiny pinch of turmeric, garlic powder, or mild herbs can be added for more flavor.

Notes

Storage instructions- Refrigerator: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Because avocado naturally oxidizes, you may notice slight browning on the top, which is completely normal. Just stir before serving.
Freezer: For longer storage, freeze the puree in small portions using a silicone baby food tray or ice cube tray. Once frozen, transfer the cubes to a freezer-safe bag or container. Freeze for up to 2 months for best freshness.
How to Reheat: Thaw overnight in the refrigerator or gently warm from frozen. Reheat in the microwave in short intervals, stirring in between, or warm in a small saucepan on low heat. You can add a splash of water, breast milk, or formula to thin the puree if needed.
