Tahini Banana French Toast

This recipe is for 8 month baby & up

Tahini banana French toast is a fun and nutritious twist on a classic breakfast favorite. This kid-friendly recipe combines the sweet, natural flavor of bananas with the nutty richness of tahini, creating a meal that’s packed with energy and nutrients to start the day right. It’s easy to make, customizable to suit different preferences, and provides a delicious way to include essential vitamins and minerals in your child’s diet. A delicious banana french toast with a middle-eastern twist!

The egg and banana mixture softens the toast, making it easier for babies to chew and swallow, while adding healthy fats and protein, making it a complete and wholesome breakfast for baby, toddlers or adults.

Sesame Allergen:

Tahini is an allergen, so if you haven’t introduced it yet to baby you can start with adding a small amount to banana and egg mixture. If you aren’t familiar with tahini it is a sesame paste. Sesame seeds are packed with nutrients, like fiber, protein, calcium, iron & zinc, all important nutrients for our growing little humans.

Why Tahini Banana French Toast for Breakfast?

-It is quick and simple to make, all in under 10 minutes!

-Tahini and bananas elevate a simple French toast into a balanced breakfast.

-Tahini might not be a common ingredient in children’s diets, but introducing it early expands their palate. The subtle, nutty taste blends seamlessly into the dish, making it an easy and non-intimidating way for kids to try something new.

-This dish combines protein, healthy fats, fiber, and natural sugars, making it a well-rounded meal. It’s energizing without being heavy, making it ideal for active kids who need sustained energy throughout the day.

Nutritional Benefits:

  • Tahini: Made from sesame seeds, tahini is a nutrient-dense ingredient rich in calcium, healthy fats, and plant-based protein. Calcium supports strong bones and teeth—important for growing kids—and healthy fats help with brain development and sustained energy.
  • Bananas: A natural sweetener and a great source of potassium, bananas aid in muscle function, heart health, and digestion. They’re also loaded with vitamin B6, which supports brain development in children.
  • Eggs and Whole-Grain Bread: Eggs are a complete protein source, essential for growth, and whole-grain bread adds fiber, aiding digestion and keeping kids full longer.

How to Serve:

Cut into 3 strips or smaller pieces for 9 month baby. If you are looking for healthy breakfast ideas for 9 month old baby, this one is great to start with, since the egg mixture makes the toast very soft & fluffy. You can serve it along side some fruit and yogurt.

For 12 months & up you can add a drizzle of maple syrup.

Substitutions:

Egg- To replace egg add 1/2 cup of preferred milk and add 1 tbsp of corn starch or 1/2 tbsp of flaxseed to thicken the mixture.

Banana- Can be replaced with another sweet fruit like shredded apple or pear.

Toast- You can use whichever toast you like, whole wheat, white, sourdough, challah bread, etc.

Non-dairy Milk- I used almond milk for this recipe, but any milk will work. For example cow milk, oat milk, soy milk, etc.
