Buttered Apple Oats

Buttered Apple Oats pinit

This recipe is for 6 month baby & up

Buttered apple oats are a comforting, nutritious breakfast that’s perfect for kids, combining the warmth of oats with the sweet and slightly tangy flavor of apples. This easy and simple breakfast idea is great for babies, toddlers and older kids. It comes out incredibly delicious and is a favorite on my blog.

Cooking fruit in healthy fats, adds nutrients and helps with stabilizing blood sugar and of course makes everything much more tastier, because anything cooked in a little butter is that much better. Buttered apple oats are not only delicious but also packed with nutrients. Oats provide fiber and vitamins like iron, magnesium, zinc, while apples add vitamins A and C and antioxidants. This warm, comforting breakfast is easy-to-digest and a perfect way to start your day. It is a favorite amongst the babies and a staple in our home, we hope you and your little one enjoy it as much as we do!

Apples are a classic kid-friendly fruit, offering a good dose of vitamin C, which is essential for immune function and skin health. They also contain fiber, particularly in the peel, which promotes healthy digestion. Apples are full of antioxidants, such as quercetin, which help protect the body’s cells from damage and support overall wellness. The natural sweetness of apples means that little to no added sugar is needed in this recipe, making it a healthier alternative to sugar-laden breakfast options.

While butter is often overlooked for its health benefits, it can be a good source of healthy fats that are important for young children, particularly for brain development. Butter contains fat-soluble vitamins like vitamin A and D, which play a role in vision, bone health, and the immune system. Using a small amount of high-quality butter in this dish adds a deliciously rich flavor and helps create a creamy texture that kids will find irresistible.

Share with baby! Make a little extra and customize it to your liking. Add chopped nuts, raisins, nut butter, drizzle honey or maple syrup on top of yours, YUM!

TIP:

I like to take some of the soften apples and add it on top of the oatmeal for some added texture, but you can blend it all together for younger babies

Substitutions:

If your little one is dairy-free you can substitute the butter with coconut oil

Oats: Replace with quinoa if preferred

Apple: Replace with pear if preferred

Chia seeds: Can omit or substitute with ground flaxseeds for an extra boost of nutrition

Cinnamon: Can omit if preferred

What you need:

Small pot, I like to use my non-toxic Our Place Pot, made with no PFA’s.
