No-Egg Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins

🍌 No-Egg Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins for Kids

These No-Egg Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins for kids are one of those recipes I love having on hand because my kids absolutely love them! They’re soft, fluffy, perfectly bite-sized for little hands, and made with just a few simple ingredients. Even better, they’re egg-free, dairy-free, nut-free and completely vegan, making them a great option for families looking for an allergen-friendly treat.

I make these mini muffins for my kids because they’re the perfect size for little hands and make such an easy addition to lunchboxes, breakfast, or snack time. Since they don’t contain eggs or dairy, they’re also a great option to share with other kids when you don’t always know which allergens they may be avoiding. Just make sure to check ingredient labels for cross-contamination if you’re baking for someone with a serious allergy.

And the best part? These muffins are sweetened with only ripe bananas and chocolate chips. There’s no added sugar, maple syrup, or honey. The riper your bananas, the sweeter and more flavorful these muffins will be!

Everything comes together in one bowl, and you can have a batch baked and ready in about 20 minutes. I love recipes that don’t leave me with a sink full of dishes!

They’re also perfect for meal prep. Freeze the leftovers and pull them out whenever you need a quick breakfast, lunchbox addition, or sweet snack. They thaw beautifully, and I love having a stash in the freezer for those busy days.

And yes, I eat these too! They’re soft, chocolatey, and delicious enough that they’re definitely not just for the kids.

🌱 Why They’re Great for Allergen-Friendly Lunchboxes

One of my favorite things about these muffins is that they’re made without two common allergens: eggs, dairy and nuts depending on milk you use.

That makes them a great option when you want something homemade that can be shared with other kids at school, playdates, or activities.

They’re:

  • ❌ Egg-free
  • ❌ Dairy-free & nut-free depending on milk you use.
  • 🌱 Vegan

🍌 Nutritional Benefits

🍌 Bananas

  • Naturally sweeten the muffins without added sugar.
  • Provide carbohydrates for energy.
  • Contain potassium and vitamin B6.
  • Add moisture and softness to the muffins.

🌾 White Spelt Flour

  • Provides carbohydrates for energy.
  • Contains some fiber and plant-based protein.
  • Creates a soft, fluffy texture.

🥑 Avocado Oil

  • Provides unsaturated fats.
  • Helps keep the muffins moist and tender.

🍫 Chocolate Chips

  • Add delicious chocolate flavor.
  • Make the muffins extra appealing to little ones.

💡 Tips for Success

  • Use very ripe bananas. Brown-spotted bananas will give you the sweetest and most flavorful muffins.
  • Don’t overmix the batter once you add the flour. Mix just until combined.
  • Mini muffins bake quickly, so keep an eye on them toward the end of the baking time.
  • Let them cool before storing so condensation doesn’t make them soggy.
  • Use mini chocolate chips so you get little bites of chocolate throughout every muffin.
  • I don’t recommend using a bigger muffin tin, the muffins will come out more doughy.
  • If you’re making these for someone with an allergy, make sure all ingredients and equipment are appropriate for their allergy needs.

🔄 Substitutions

Flour

  • Use white spelt flour or all-purpose flour.
  • White whole wheat flour can also work, although the muffins may be slightly denser.

Milk

  • Use any unsweetened non-dairy milk such as almond, oat, soy, or coconut milk.
  • If you need these to be completely nut-free, choose oat or soy milk.

Oil

  • Avocado oil works beautifully, but you can substitute another neutral-flavored oil.

Chocolate Chips

  • Use mini chocolate chips for smaller muffins.
  • For an allergen-friendly version, choose chocolate chips that are dairy-free and meet your specific dietary needs.
