Turkey Veggie Tots

This recipe is for 8+ months

You have to make these Turkey Veggie Tots, they will disappear in your household within minutes! A favorite with the kids, these are a great way to sneak some of those veggies into mealtime. Great for baby-led weaning (BLW) or if you are transitioning your little one from purees to solids, they come out so soft, moist, tender and taste absolutely delicious!

These tots are better than traditional tots because they are packed with lots of protein, vitamins and minerals that baby needs for growth and development. Turkey is a wonderful protein when starting solids, it is easy to digest because it doesn’t contain coarse fibers, it has important nutrients like iron, zinc, choline, selenium and Vitamins B6 & B12. Baked with sweet potato and carrot, I love that you are getting a full meal and lots of healthy nutrients in every bite. They are golden on the outside, have a tender and flavorful center and if you have a toddler or older kids these tots are perfect for dipping in ketchup or your favorite sauce. You can serve this for lunch or dinner along with some fruit and they are excellent for meal prepping, keep extras in the freezer and heat up in toaster oven, air fry or even a little in the microwave, whatever you prefer. Broccoli Sweet Potato Salmon Tots

 

Substitutions:

Egg: you can substitute with flax egg or plant-based egg

Oats: I like to use instant oats, since it is thinner in texture and easier to chew for the little one’s, but you can use rolled oats if that’s what you have on hand or you can substitute with breadcrumbs of choice

Turkey: If you prefer ground chicken instead of turkey it would still come out delicious

Sweet Potato & Carrot: I personally think the tot needs these veggies for moisture and taste, but if you want to omit or add another veggie in replace you can

Ingredients

Adjust Servings
1 lb. ground turkey
1 small or 1/2 large sweet potato
1 carrot
1 egg
1/4 cup + 2 tbsp instant oats
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp turmeric
Pinch of black pepper

Directions

Steam sweet potato and carrot for 15 min
Mark as complete

When ready add to mixing bowl and mash
Mark as complete

Add ground turkey along with egg, oats, seasonings and mix everything together well
Work your meat for a few minutes, this is what will make it soft
Mark as complete

Form your tots and place on baking tray
Mark as complete

Bake on 375 F for 30-35 min (flip halfway through)

Notes

Storage instructions- can refrigerate for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 1 month
